Representatives of Seraiki cultural and literary organisations, students and political workers demanded equal representation of Seraikis in the Senate, the IRSA and the NFC Award along with holding of a separate session of the Seraiki members of the Punjab Assembly in Multan twice a year, says a press release.

In a press conference, the representatives terming it a proper time for the government of the democratic alliance to take few constitutional steps leading to peaceful formation of the Seraiki province also demanded establishment of an administrative region of the Seraiki districts.

The representatives demanded that the early education should be imparted in mother tongue, a principle being followed by Japanese, Chinese, Russians and all the developed nations of the world. They said that Seraiki should be made compulsory subject at school and college levels in the Seraiki region and demanded start of Seraiki and Pashto departments in the Gomal University. The representatives also demanded commencement of the approved Department of Linguistics in Quaid-i-Azam University and departments of Pakistani languages in all universities. They emphasised on appointment of lecturers of Seraiki language in Pakistan Study Centres in all universities.

The representatives condemned intervention of the right wing political parties in the colleges and universities particularly in the Seraiki region that is aiming at re-emergence of the wave of fascism among students.

In the end, the representatives making clear perception about them, said the Seraiki area lies in the middle of Pakistan territory and they are working for the betterment of the country and, “By no logic, we can be labelled as anti-Pakistan.”
