Seraiki IdentitySeraikis have no doubt the pride of being the largest of Pakistani nations. Unlike Balochs, Pukhtoons and Punjabis, they have not any national relations, without the geographical borders of Pakistan. They are the inheritors of great Indus Valley Civilization. Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam flourished here and then spread to other parts of Indian subcontinent.
Seraiki wasaib bore the brunt of all invaders from North West in the span of history, but its civilization was so rich and strong that it absorbed all of them soon. Seraiki land was much larger than our present demand of Seraiki Sooba, which is further decreasing by the misguiding term of Janubi Punjab, and I am sorry to say that most of our Seraiki leaders are ready to accept this term and feel content with it.
It is irony that Seraiki wasaib was united in the period of much accursed One Unit. At present Seraiki is the second largest language of Balochistan, NWFP, and Sindh and also the Punjabi is not the largest language in Punjab if Pothohari is excluded from.
As for as our demand for Seraiki province; no one can deny it. But we should be clear about the fact that the achievement of this end is not a sole solution of our national aspirations. Sindhis, Balochs and Pukhtoons: having their provinces since long and are fighting for their national rights. They are not satisfied with the present federation, and are contemplating about separation.
Can we think of it? Integrity of Pakistan is our integrity, and no one can claim to be more committed Pakistani than Seraikis. We want our cultural, social and economic rights to be achieved by our committed and sane movement and: in the same way we support the demands of other oppressed nations in Pakistan and expect of them the same.
Instead of chanting hollow slogans, we need a lot of research work in field of economic, culture, literature and history of wasaib. We have a splendid history religious harmony propagated by our soofi saints, and help eliminate the extremism from our wasaib.
