Dear Madan Lal, One can never forget his homeland.Your Retri is still intact. It is only 40 km. north of my village.Islamabad-Karachi direct highway passes a few km. west of it,and it is linked by a metalled road at Fazil with the main highway.Pathan families originally live here. The village is electrfied and isalso linked by road with Jandanwala and Dullewala.Dullewala is in south 17km.There is a boys high school. The area is partially irrigated by canal water.Sand dunes are still there. How old were you when as a resultof the accident of partition, you had to leave your home. There are few Mohajir families who were settled here on your property. Regards, Anmin

Dear Mr. Ijaz and Mr. Ghulam, I am extremely touched to see your reply. It gives me immense pleasure to know about my ancestral village. Thankyou so much for connecting me again to my village memories. I was seven years old when we left with our families to India but I still have very clear memories about my village. I miss the fruit "Pipoo", "Dokey" and delicious "Khumbi"...... If you happen to meet some one from Retri please convey my regards to descendents of Fathey Khan Pathan and others who had saved ourt lives when we migrated to India. I hope to visit my ancestral village someday along with my sons who also want to know more about Retri.
Thanks and regards, Madan Lal Makkar

Dear Friends
I am touched, truly touched to see the love and acceptance of all us sons of the Motherland.
There has been so much prejudice about Pakistan and Pakistanis in India, and am sure the same on the other side of the border about Indians too. But there was always hope that humanity on either side of the border still lives with love.
I know that Multani has several dialects / variations. I dare to start interacting with you all in Seraiki today. Hope you will accept.
Ajj Multain di Site dekh ke dil khush thee gay. Sade Dada Dadi Multan Sheher koli aye hann. Multan di bauun gaal karende hann. Multan dekhann da dada dill karenda he.

Dear Seraiki brothers and sisters. We are a large community of Multanis (as we call ourselves) in India. I live in Bangalore, in South India. I currently head a language insititute here and am very glad to see that steps are being taken to revive my mother tongue. In India, it being a cauldron of languages and culture, our identity was diffused and mixed with Punjab (with which we undeniably share a linguistic and cultural affinity). At the same time, having our immediate ancestors living in Delhi, our mother tongue was considered to be Hindi (or Hindustani), while at the same time, living in Bangalore, which is a very cosmopolitan town, the lingua franca was English and the regional language Kannada. Multani (or Seraiki) was spoken only at home, among the elders. Today, in the age of revivalism, when Punjabi Pop and Culture is finding its way to Hindi Cinema, it is a fresh breez of freedom to be able to say, I speak Multani. I AM Multani, an identity that was earlier hidden or shunned. I am glad to be part of this Site. I hope to contribute to the development of this site. A suggestion that i have is to involve more and more Hindu Seraikis and to write more about the past Hindu culture. For the Seraiki identity is not that of Muslim Pakistan, but something distinct. Our indentity is (un)fortunately divided and lost between India and Pakistan, and yet we all yearn to be again identified with our MOTHERLAND. The meaning of Motherland on both sides of the divide is today only politically defined. While the truth is that all Seraikis, be they Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Christian, Jew or Parsi, are Seraikis. The partition was a painful separation. The hatred and violence unwarranted. It is time to heal the wounds in our psyches and to make brotherhood and peace and amity our goal, for that is what all our religious and spiritual traditions stand for. I congratulate this site to have maintained a non-religious and unbiased outlook unlike that of PTV and other state run sites and channels. I am glad to see this movement coming for within Pakistan, and it reassures me that we are still part of THEM, our brothers and sisters; for love knows know boundaries nor limitations. My embraces and heart-felt gratitude to you all. Vikram Malhotra
