You are quite right in your judgment about the situation in Dera Ismail Khan. In fact, the whole Damaan have become the frontline region for the state of Pakistan. If we look at the situation in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur District, it will apear, albiet in less intensity' similar to Dera Ismail Khan. If the much talked Transnational Gas Pipelines are constructed in near future, the southern part of Damaan will be further militarized and colonized in brutal and systematic way. We need to develop national positions on these and other such important issues. The idea of Seraiki Conference is aimed to facilitate that process.

I totally agree that we need more and more communication between different Seraiki groups, organizations, individuals working in different areas. There are some thoerists of nationalism who believe it was the introduction of mass communication technologies that created the Nation in the west. It may not be fully true but control over communication means and resources play pivotal role in shaping national identies and movements.

We Seraikis have little control over communication, media and education. This issue has been therefore suggested in the concept note as one of the central themes of the Seraiki Conference.

The purpose of circulating the concept note is to get the response or feedback fom the friends like you. It will be very helpful if anyone can give suggestions in this regard.

The issues touched in concept are quite relevant . It seems Seraiki
through out wasaib are facing same kind of circumstances, accept for
Dera Ismail Khan , where situation is bit more disturbed and fate of
Seraikis of the district quite depressing due to huge influx of
various Pathan tribes after increase of militancy in waziristan agency.

It seems that there are several hurdles in the way of this conference
, one being the lack of communication between all concerned. I know
ground realities are quite different from virtual realities , it must
be really difficult to bring all like minded people to a consensus
point.

My personal opinion is before doing any thing else communication
should be improved between all friends. There are events taking place
in Wasaib , but most of the Seraikis are not aware of any such events.
We should develop some mechanism where maximum people could get our
message and information aout Seraiki issues.

The concept note contains various question which should be thoroughly
considered before we go ahead for the conference.

I think that this concept note should be circulated as widely as
possible , one possible way could be sending it to all people
currently involved in political process in wasaib, by this I mean it
should be send to all MPAs , MNAs, Zila Nazims ,Thesils Union Council
Nazims and members of Zila , thesil and Union councils. Besides that
it must be circulated at University and College level through out
wasaib( If deemed appropriate). It is also necessary to invite all
Seraiki parties .I know it may be a gigantic task and response may be
disappointing , but in my opinion it is the only way to involve the
masses. With out properly propogating/ marketing efforts , this
conference will attract a lukewarm response. In addition to this I
would like to suggest , before National Conference is held, district
level meetings are held ( if there is possibility of such meeting)
through out wasaib.

We should also develop some mechanism through which efforts of
different Seraiki related individuals/groups/organization could be
made available to seraiki masses . Although internet is quickest and
most cost effective medium but Websites are not sufficient towards
this end owing to low usage of internet and computer in Wasaib. This
can be done through a seraiki news letter on monthly basis. It can be
circulated through out wasaib through news agencies , they charge for
this kind of services.

At this stage I think we all should concentrate our energies on
reviving and improving communication channel . Which aims at
contacting old friends and bringing new people in.
