Hi,

There are few Seraiki dictionaries around. Two of these were work of Englishmen working for the Crown in the British India.

First one is Glossary of the Multani language By Edward O'Brien, of the Indian Civil Service . This dictionary was printed in 1881 and has 293 pages. This books compares Multani (Seraiki ) Language with Pinjabi and Sindhi.

The second work on Seraiki Dictionary by an Englishman is Dictionary of the Jatki Or Western Panjʹabi Language By Andrew John Jukes. Published in 1900. This book has 344 pages.

Most Recent Works:-

Professor Shoukat Mughal is in process of completing his work on Seraiki Dictionary . Hopefully it will be published by the end of this year. Professor Saeb is working day and night on this dictionary and is on leave from college. Earlier Professor Saed translated O’Brein’s ‘Glossary of Multani Language’ into Seraiki under the changed title of ‘Seraiki Lughat".

Another Seraiki Dictionary which was published early in Feburary this year is "Seraiki Lughat" . Published by BZU Multan. It is a comprehensive work and includes 48000 words. Although reasearchers at university have collection of 150000 words . But in first edition only those words were added which were authenticated by the authorities on the Seraiki Language. Work on second edition has already been started and this edition will include more words which recieve authentication. This book is available from Jhoke Publication , Multan for Rs. 600.

Online Seraiki Dictionary: We can use above mentioned works for creating an online Seraiki Dictionary . In my opinion it will be a huge task which will require enermous efforts and money. If some body commits to take responsibility for tgis project , I can commit some money and request few other members to contribute as well.

Regards

Farooq
