Seraiki Social Forum 2006/09/20 07:21 Karma: 22
I agree with the asserions made by Ahsan Wagha in his email. Besides the erosion
of trust amongst Siraiki activists, there are numerous other risks involved in
this trend. First, the agenda and direction of activism will be determined by
donors/ngos funding the activities of Siraiki Forum. This is not merely an
hypothesis but there is strong empirical evidence available in the favour of this
assertion. Secondly, the movement will soon experience the corruption of language.
For example, the notion of resistance will soon be replaced by the words such
consensus building and participation. We will no more remain "qaidi takhat lahore
day" but will become merely "stakeholder". Simialrly, the claim against
colonization will be transformed into demands for equitable and participatory
development.

We need to discuss all these issues before we take any decision.

With best regards,

Mushtaq Gadi

Dosto,

Seeing the list of names given in the end of your message, I assume formation of
Siraiki Social Forum might be a right move.

However, please think before you go further. The trend, among individuals, of
mixing their modes of livelihoods with the political struggle of the people is a
known syndrome among the LEFT and has most of the times proved counter productive.

There is nothing new in reminding you all that 'civil society activism' has been
universally rejected as alternate to peoples' politics. One of few wrong things
with the paid activism is, this exhausts the very essence of the 'mutual trust
among a political group which is a contract unwritten'. To this day, the Siraiki
activists mostly trusted each other’s intentions and differed only on approach, or
political siding. I wish if it remains so for future.

The World Social Forum has a big donor and a big country agent in Pakistan; they
are nice people lovers of World peace. There is nothing wrong in supporting this
movement. However portraying it as a service to Siraiki cause is a different
thing.

Not fully convinced with my own argument, I strongly suggest hanging-on-with the
DOUBT. A doubt to invite more debate before decision.
Ahsan Wagha
