DERA ISMAIL KHAN
Seven Derewal Seraikis have been killed in 2 seperate incidents in Dera Ismail Khan creating panic in the areas.

On Monday at 8:15am, four persons traveling on a Ching Chi rickshaw were killed near Zakori Graveyard on Drabini road when some unknown persons started indiscriminate firing on them.

All the persons belonged to the same Shia family and were identified as Retired Tehsildar Bashir Hussain Shah, Kafiat Hussain Shah, Hassan Ali Shah and Gyur Abbas. One constable named Qismat Ullah Khan was also killed in the result of the firing.

The murderers after committing the heinous crime managed to escape from the scene. The police after the incident have sealed the area and are on a look out for the murderers

The brutal murder of seven people has again created the fear and Raheem Bazaar, Klan and Toopon Wala Bazaar were closed and the area presented the deserted look.

After the incident, the relatives of the deceased reached the hospital and raised strong slogans.
In the second incident on Muriali road two others were killed and one seriously injured, They were Sunnis.It seems a retaliatory action. God bless our Derewaals and we condemn the elements behind damaging the traditional brotherhood of Seraikis of Dera Ismail Khan.

Hi,

Dera is under the dark cloud of sectarian killings for decades now. The blood of Derawals specially Shias has become very cheap and on average two people are gunned down every week. According to friend the water of river Sindhu , on whose bank Dera is situated gives a shade of crimson colour , as if blood of Shias is getting mixed with it .

The division between Shias and Sunnis is quite clear . While Shias are being ruthlessly killed Sunni Derawals have returned a member of notorious banned sectarian organization to the provincial assembly.

During the last few years Shia community has last lot of its prominent members . The killed included university professors, businessmen, landlords, government employees, Doctors and engineers.

In my opinion behind these all killings there , is hand a of single group which does not consist of more then few members. However , the lack of willingness on part of the government to hunt them out has encouraged this group to the extent that it can kill anyone , anytime and anywhere. Shia community has last its leadership and now people are reluctant to become prominent due to fear of being targeted by this group of assailants.

There is another element involved as well, that is presence of large number of Tribals , who are mostly Sunnis and ultra violent . The most recent killings , according to some are result of personal rivalry of victims with the tribal Pathans. Derawals have started facing aggression by these tribals , who openly term all derawals as "Kirars" , (Hindus) due to peaceful and nonviolent nature of Derawals.

Many affluent Derawals have migrated to other areas in Pakistan, mostly to Punjab and Karachi due to law and order situation and economic suffocation which is evenly haunts the Seraikis of the Districts.

God knows what kind of promise future holds for Seraikis of this district , but their present is quite gruesome and hopeless. May God be with them.
